Emphasising the human factor in conservation and sustainable development.
Adopting a long-term and holistic perspective.
Applying predominantly anthropological and other social scientific methods.
Assessing the current livelihood of men, women and children who inhabit rainforest areas around the world, and the problems they face in the context of development and conservation.
Respecting the wellbeing and representing the rights of indigenous rainforest peoples.
Training and employing researchers from the regions of Africa, the Caribbean areas of Central and South America, the Pacific and Europe.
Sponsored by DGVIII, the international development and co-operation wing of the European Commission which conducts work in these areas.
