FRP-PNG research puts the model of Sites of Intensive Interdisciplinary Research into practice in two locations:

This model was developed by the Scientific Council of the APFT / FRP programme to adopt a holistic approach in working with people in rainforest areas.
| — Research is conducted with each population over a period of several years or more. Long-term studies are carried out by Junior Researchers for the APFT / FRP programme, who are based in a village in a forest area. Their research is complemented by that of experts in the same or other disciplines who come and work on a shorter-term basis, and by appraisals and surveys carried out by teams of researchers in the wider area. |
